Summer Work

Bonjour! I hope you are having a wonderful time during les vacances. Here is a list of websites you can use to practice with. Spending an hour a week listening to the songs, playing games, or reading French stories will be very helpful to you in the fall. Try to use a different site each time you log on. Also, you can keep a notebook of new words you have learned and share them with the class in the fall. Click on the words below to get to the sites.

Up To Ten - Songs in French. Click on the teeny tiny P near the controls and you can read the lyrics as you listen.

BBC Kids French - A GREAT website with songs you can read along with. A good way to practice the basics. Make sure you have the latest version of Flash.

Le jardin!

Our jardin is coming along very nicely. We now have five green tomatoes, flowers on our peas, and growing herbs. The girls have been very excited to watch the progress of our plants. For any French teachers looking to study the life cycle of a plant with their class, www.growstorygrow.com has a simple story to begin with. You will have to sign up for free trial to see the story but it's worth it.

4th Grade Garden - Le Jardin Update!

Well, it's week three for our petites plantes and things are going very well. They are growing very quickly and we will have to transplant them soon. Yesterday we measured again and continued to work on our plant books in French. Mrs. Bernieri has been working on the plant project in Science class (in French!). This is shaping up to be a wonderful STEM/French project and I can't wait to move the garden outside.

Grade 5 Guess Who in French

Today we played Guess Who in French. It's a guessing game where we try to figure out who our partner has chosen by asking yes or no questions about the way they look. It helped us practice the verb Avoir, turning statements into questions, and adjectives. Here's a lesson on TES for any Language teachers who would like to use this in their classes. You'll have to create a free account first. I printed out 15 copies of the 4th slide for my class and lamenated them. We wrote down all the necessary vocabulary and practiced it the class before we played. If you can't get the lesson through the link just google the phrase "guess who in french" and click the TES link.

Grade 4 Immersion / STEM Lesson

The fourth grade will be working on a Science based French immersion lesson. Today we created newspaper pots for our seeds and planted lettuce, tomatoes, peas, and poppies. We will be watching closely for signs of "la vie" and when we spot something we will record our findings in French!
