Les vetements - Grade 5 French Class

Aujourd'hui we drew, cut, and labeled "les vetements" en francais. Everyone had something different to work on. We shared our creations at the end of class and now have them displayed for reference. What a big list of clothing vocabulary! Here are some sites that will help you memorize important words and phrases...

French Christmas Craft!

We have been working on some recettes (recipes) en classe, and I thought it would be fun to put our knowledge to good use and make some decorations for Noel. We are starting with a homework assignment so everyone will bring in their pâte à sel.

Il faut...

Du sel
De l'eau
Du farine

Dans un sac en plastique (ziploc), melangez un 1/2 tasse de sel, 1 tasse de farine, et un 1/2 tasse de l'eau.

Once you are finished with this part of the assignment, choose a cookie cutter (or we'll use un verre) and come to class! We will be cooking and decorating for Noel together! Fantastique n'est-ce pas?

Fleur de Lis Craft

Using a stencil, fabric paper, and some cardboard, we created these beautiful ornaments in the 6th grade. The Fleur de Lis is a traditional symbol of royalty in France. You can read more about it HERE.

Design a shirt in French

A fantastic project we did this week! Every student used online computer software (www.pizap.com) to design a shirt. We printed out the design, ironed them on (using iron-on transfer paper from Staples) to a white T, and wore them during National French week!

National French Week Craft - Flag Collage

The fifth grade joined the celebration by creating French flag collages. We cut up old magazines and found pages that were bleu, blanc, and rouge. We pasted them on to one piece of white paper and voila, an artistic French flag.

French Cheese Projects - National French Week

To celebrate National French Week the 8th grade presented the projects they have been working on for the past few classes. They worked in pairs to research the fromage of France. They studied the cheese, the region it came from, and even what animal is used in it's production. The middle school joined us on the final day to sample le fromage!

Watch a French chef make a simple dish based on a classic ratatouille. The vocab is easy to follow. Hey, why not get out your pots and pans and give this dish a try?

The 8th grade has been studying "le fromage" of France. We've looked at the "terroire" of different regions and will be sharing some of the cheese tomorrow in class. I am looking forward to listening to the student presentations and sampling some wonderful cheese!

These are some of the websites we've been using for our research. Some interesting facts and even a game or two.

8th Grade VoiceThread

So this is the best software program I have found in a long time! It is going to make assessing pronunciation so much easier. It's also going to make it possible for students to practice their oral communication on their own time. Their are so many ways I can use this application to help my students become better French speakers! As you can tell, I'm pretty excited. Keep checking back to listen to some of our voicethreads.

Madame's Tech

I have begun another blog to keep track of any new and exciting technology I think will be useful in my classroom. Some of it I've used, and some of it I'm still playing with. These are all free software programs that can be adapted to many activities. I am compiling the list for my own reference, but oftentimes the students would like to use the software at home.
